Problems that cause hair loss

There are many causes of baldness including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Alopecia Androgenica - This is the most common cause of hair loss that is hereditary. Testosterone levels in the body and the side effects are determined by factors passed down from your parents. They are related to males and to some extent female hair loss. Tightness of the scalp is usually hereditary and causes impaired blood flow particularly to the top of the head. Micro-circulation of the scalp is almost completely hindered, thus starving the necessary nutrients and trace elements to the hair follicles. Lack of oxygen prevents effective keratinisation. The hair growth cycle is disturbed. The hair follicle lapses into gradual decline and vanishes. The Crown Laser System may be able to stimulate the scalp and prevent hair loss and promote hair growth depending on how long this type of hair loss has been occurring.
  • Sebaceous Gland / Sebum Control - Several forms of hair loss can be caused by insufficient blood supply or excessive sebum in the scalp. Sebum is the natural oil produced by the sebaceous glands just beneath the skin. While sebum in the right amounts means healthier hair and scalp, too much can literally suffocate the follicles and can lead to malnutrition and weakness at the hair root. Initially, some people notice their scalp becoming greasier during treatment. This means that sebum is being lifted out from the follicle onto the scalp. This is a natural reaction to increased stimulation of the scalp indicating the treatment is working. The laser treatment acts to neutralize the sebaceous gland to a normal level of production. The level of scalp grease will normalize after a few treatments. Laser therapy can also be effective in treating dandruff, psoriasis, seborrhea and greasy scalp.
  • Testosterone - This important male hormone collaborates with an enzyme in the sebabaceous gland to produce a substance called DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is transported to the follicle where it increases hair loss. When sebaceous glands become abnormally large, they assist in the over production of DHT which results in normal, terminal hairs becoming small, fine, unmodulated, non-pigmented hairs (vellus), which, in turn, can lead to baldness.
  • Demodex Bug - Demodex Folliculorium is a small parasite that lives on the scalp and feeds on the sebum. Biotechnical researchers discovered the presence of the bug on 100% of men and women with thinning hair who were clinically tested. Demodex produces the enzyme lipase which it needs to digest the sebum it feeds on. Test show that lipase can adversely affect the condition and appearance of your hair.
  • Alopecia Senilis - This type of baldness occurs at old age and it is permanent.
  • Alopecia Premature - This condition may occur anytime before middle age and it is caused when the weaker hair replaces the first hair that falls out.
  • Alopecia Areata - The hair suddenly falls out in round patches or baldness in spots. This condition can be due to medical conditions (such as anaemia, stress, scarlet fever, typhoid or syphilliis). Typically, the nervous system is subjected to injury, hence the blood to the area is poorly nourished.
