Mens hair loss
Androgenic Alopecia (also known as male pattern baldness) is the most common cause of hair loss in men.
In classic pattern baldness, hair is lost in a pattern beginning above both temples. Hair also thins at the crown of the head. Often a rim of hair around the sides and rear of the head is all that’s left.
A variety of genetic and possibly environmental factors play a role in androgenic alopecia.
Researchers have determined that pattern hair loss is related to hormones called androgens, particularly an androgen called dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Male pattern baldness is caused by a genetic sensitivity of hair follicles to DHT, which causes them to shrink or ‘miniaturise’. This shortens their lifespan and prevents them from producing hair normally.
There are also theories that scalp tightness and resulting baldness may be a result of co-contraction of small muscles in the scalp, leading to increased tension.
Men with androgenic alopecia typically have higher levels of 5-alpha-reductase, lower levels of total testosterone, higher levels of unbound/free testosterone, and higher levels of total free androgens including DHT. 5-alpha-reductase is responsible for converting free testosterone into DHT.
The diagnosis of androgenic alopecia can be usually established based on clinical presentation in men. In most cases androgenic alopecia can be confirmed by a microscopic scalp analysis.
Regrowth of lost hair in the early stages of male pattern baldness can be fully restored with non-invasive treatments such as laser. However, bald spots where hair follicles have closed down and been destroyed cannot be restored with non-invasive treatments and require a hair transplant to achieve coverage.
More than 60% of all men suffer a hair loss condition within their lifetime.
Hair loss in men can lead to low self-esteem, embarrassment and even depression – especially if you feel there’s no hope.
But there is help available, and you are definitely not alone. At Innovative Hair Loss Solutions we don’t use surgery or any ‘gimmicks’, hair pieces or wigs. We specialise in hair re-growth treatments that are safe, non-invasive and pain-free.
Our programs are tailored to your specific hair regrowth needs so that you can regrow your own hair – either in one of our studios, or in the comfort of your own home.
‘It bloody works mate, I’m telling you it really bloody works.’
“I was wearing a hairpiece and was very conscious of how unnatural it looked. So I started the IHLS program about two years ago. I went to Subiaco and was introduced to Deb. I was pretty sceptical at first but she reassured me without making any false claims or promises. I had my first couple of treatments at Subi but, because I live in Rockingham, I bought a helmet and treated myself at home. You have to be disciplined and stick to the treatment regime. Mine involves tablets and creams and of course the laser helmet which I use three times a week. I only go to Subi about every six weeks for a check-up. The results, even after a few weeks, were amazing and they got better and better every month. I’d lost hair on my crown and on the front of my head and now it’s all come back. It bloody works mate, I’m telling you it really bloody works. I feel much more confident. It really has changed my life. I’m really indebted to Deb and IHLS. I think if more people knew about IHLS, all the other companies would go out of business.”
